There is a strange little moment after moving house when everything technically belongs to you…

…but it doesn’t quite feel like home yet.

There are still boxes you absolutely intend to unpack.

Eventually.

There is one cupboard nobody understands.

You keep reaching for light switches that were apparently designed by somebody with a completely different understanding of logic.

And for at least a few weeks, you still describe where things are by saying:

“In the new house…”

Then Christmas arrives.

The tree goes up.

Lights appear in the windows.

Presents start gathering in corners.

Someone puts a wreath on the door.

And suddenly, almost without noticing…

the new house becomes home.

That is the Christmas worth remembering.

Your First Christmas There Only Happens Once

There will hopefully be many Christmases in a home.

Christmas mornings.

Late-night wrapping sessions.

Family dinners.

Children running downstairs far too early.

Friends arriving with bottles, bags and far too much food.

Pets investigating wrapping paper they absolutely were not invited to investigate. 😄

But there is only ever one first Christmas there.

And that is what inspired our newest personalized ceramic Christmas ornament.

Why We Chose “First Christmas Here”

We played with quite a few ways of saying it.

First Christmas in Our New Home.

Our First Christmas at Home.

Christmas in Our New House.

They all said roughly the right thing.

But on a small ornament, words need room to breathe.

And emotionally, we kept coming back to:

First Christmas Here

There is something warm about it.

It sounds less like an announcement and more like something you might say years later while holding the ornament:

“Oh, that was our first Christmas here.”

Exactly.

That is the memory.

Families Come in All Name Sizes 😄

Personalization can get interesting surprisingly quickly.

There are The Lees.

Lovely. Easy.

Then The Harrisons.

Still behaving beautifully.

And then along come:

The O’Connors
The Van der Meers
The Smith-Johnsons

So we deliberately designed and tested the ornament with short names, long names, apostrophes, hyphens and multi-word surnames.

Shorter names remain elegant rather than being stretched unnecessarily, while longer names can be carefully reduced to keep the design balanced.

For ordering, the family wording should simply be entered exactly as you would like it printed.

So if you want:

The Harrisons

enter exactly that.

We don’t automatically add The, pluralize a surname or decide where punctuation belongs.

Your family knows its name better than we do. 😄

And Yes… We Made the Back Pretty Too

By now we have learned something important about Christmas ornaments:

they refuse to face forward.

You hang them beautifully.

You stand back.

Perfect.

Five minutes later, the ornament has turned around and is showing everybody its backside.

Fine.

Challenge accepted. 😂
