The Art of Lagom: A Pillow, a Vase and a Few Thoughtful Details
They do not need more furniture, more colour, or more “stuff.”
Sometimes, they just need the right few pieces.
That is exactly what I love about our Nordic Lighthouse pillow. Inspired by the Swedish idea of lagom — not too little, not too much, just right — it brings a room that quiet, settled feeling that makes everything look more considered without trying too hard.
For this Nordic-inspired look, I paired our pillow with two simple Amazon finds: a textured neutral vase and a wooden decorative chain. Together, they create a space that feels calm, soft, natural and beautifully finished.
And the best part?
It still feels like a real home.
Because beautiful living should never feel too serious.
Start with the hero piece
Our Nordic Lighthouse pillow is the piece that sets the tone.
With its soft ivory background, dusty blue typography, subtle sage lines and lighthouse motif, it feels clean and peaceful without feeling cold. The word LAGOM gives it meaning, and the phrase underneath says it perfectly:
Not too little. Not too much. Just right.
That idea becomes the guide for the whole corner.
Instead of filling the room, we let one thoughtful pillow do what a good accent piece should do:
bring colour, softness and personality.
Add natural texture with a vase
The next piece in this look is the textured ceramic vase.
This is such a good styling partner for the pillow because it adds a different kind of softness. The pillow gives us textile and pattern. The vase gives us shape and texture.
Its neutral stone-like finish works beautifully with the muted blue, sage and grey tones in the pillow, and it fits perfectly into that Nordic-inspired style where everything feels unfussy, relaxed and quietly beautiful.
Add a few stems of eucalyptus or white blooms and suddenly the whole space feels lighter and more alive.
Finish with a sculptural wood accent
To complete the look, I added the wooden decorative chain.
This is the kind of detail that makes a room feel styled without making it feel busy. It adds warmth, a natural material, and a slightly sculptural shape that contrasts nicely with the softness of the pillow and the rounded vase.
Placed on a coffee table, on top of a couple of books, or on a console, it gives that lovely “someone thought about this room” feeling.
Which is really what this whole look is about.
Not too much.
Just enough.
Why this combination works
This little trio works so well because each piece brings something different:
- The pillow brings softness, colour and story
- The vase brings texture and an organic feel
- The wooden chain brings warmth and shape
Nothing competes.
Nothing shouts.
Everything earns its place.
That is where the room starts to feel calm and finished.
And honestly, that may be the real secret of Nordic-inspired styling. It is not about adding lots of Scandinavian-looking things. It is about choosing a few pieces that work together and then letting the room breathe.
A simple lesson in lagom
If you love interiors that feel peaceful, this is such an easy principle to borrow:
Try this formula:
- one soft piece
- one natural textured piece
- one sculptural accent
That is enough to make a corner feel layered and interesting, without tipping into clutter.
Very convenient, really, because apparently owning one beautiful pillow can lead to a vase, a wooden chain, and suddenly a whole new respect for restraint. 😄
Create the look at home
If you want to recreate this calm Nordic look, keep the rest of the room simple:
- start with a neutral sofa or chair
- use soft whites, warm beige, sage and muted blue
- add light wood tones
- keep surfaces mostly clear
- include one or two natural elements, like greenery, branches or flowers
The goal is not perfection.
The goal is a room that feels peaceful, welcoming and lived in.
The kind of space where coffee lasts longer, the light feels softer, and rainy weather somehow becomes part of the charm.

Final thoughts
Sometimes a room does not need more.
It just needs better chosen details.
That is why I love this Nordic Lighthouse pairing so much. With one pillow, one vase and one sculptural wood accent, the room feels softer, calmer and more complete — without losing that relaxed, real-life feeling that makes a home inviting in the first place.
And if that is not a good argument for lagom, I do not know what is.
